"Here are some general guidelines I suggest you follow when purchasing/storing pine nuts:
- Buy the more expensive Italian pine nuts and make sure it’s from a store with a high turnover.
- Pine nuts turn rancid very quickly, so buy in small quantities and store them well-wrapped in the refrigerator for short periods of time, or in the freezer if you need to store them for an extended period of time. Just make sure you keep those suckers cold!"
Usually American and Italian pine nuts won't cause that problem... Chinese will.'
Also, if you're still not over the bitter taste, consider buying this:
http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/wacky-edibles/ab3f/ (don't know where to get them in Britain)... I haven't tried them, but they have a protein in them that binds to your tongue if you let them dissolve in your mouth that makes bitter and sour things taste sweet... theoretically, it should be able to negate "pine mouth"
Also, soni2295, pine nuts are found in pine cones. They're essentially just pine tree seeds. They're also relatively expensive, because it's difficult to get pine nuts out of pine cones in large numbers...
