Timesplitters 4 wishlist

Postby Matthew Mitchell » September 4th, 2009, 6:28 pm

Post your TimeSplitters 4 wishes here. Use one post but you can delete and transfer your wishlist to the end of the topic if you have anything to add.

My wishlist:

  • Old TS2 modes back such as flame tag and regenerate.
  • An improved mapmaker, obviously.
  • The same game play style.
  • As big as mapmaker maps as the PS3 can handle
  • Berserker slitters are destroyed but the reaper and scourge splitters still exist.
  • Allies and civilians in mapmaker.
  • All songs from every game!
  • Bigger and more immense environments
  • On-line co-op but keeping the off-line co-op.
  • A level on the timesplitters home planet.
  • Classic levels brought back in HD and no TS2HD
  • No jumping

Damn, I feel like I've been making the same posts for five years now...

A big shout out to the mapmaker - HDD support, DLC, updates, and although the simplicity of building maps in past mapmakers has been a big selling point, I've also used the FC mapmaker in the past and it would be nice to able to make some more organic maps in TS4.

Lots of emphasis on the MP options - the biggest plus of the game IMO. Ranks, etc are important to players now, but with some intelligent work it would be easy to put plenty of replay value into the TS MP via rewards - just look at what FRD did with the challenge modes in previous TS games. Crowbar that ethic into multiplayer and you have a winning formula. Rewards could be as simple as getting new characters and weapons in MP, and god knows TS has enough of 'em. IMO this is the biggest thing TS4 has to get right - it already has everything else pretty much nailed, it just needs a new engine and lots more variety.

Of course the return of as many characters, maps and weapons as can be - they don't have to all come back at once, LBP has been banging out several character skins a month for a year now. TS chars would doubtless take a little more work, but it should be possible to have character/map/weapon packs coming out frequently to add to the already packed cast/maps/ar-senal.

A 4p co-op campaign - I don't care how you do it, you can have extra players warping into the action with a time crystal in hand for all I care (and that wouldn't be so bad an idea), but if MP is the sweet-spot for 'splitters, putting it into the 'SP' campaign is a winner.

Keeping split-screen play - not as popular as it used to be? Maybe not with the hardcore always-online crowd, but how many people don't play online and are crying out for split-screen play (a vanishing commodity in today's market)? Another USP for the TS series, and for it's first two iterations split-screen was multiplayer. I could understand it being left out, but I think it would be dropping the ball to do so.

If they're going to keep the standard FPS gameplay that TS3 had instead of the arcade gameplay that TS1 and 2 had PLEASE, OH PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE IT! If TS4 has the same aiming system with that crap lock-on auto-aim and that aim-boost like Halo has I'm going to vomit. TS3's auto-aim is the best I've ever seen in a console FPS.

Also, don't swap the health and shield to that health-regeneration system Halo and CoD has either PLEASE. Please don't halo- and CoD-izise the game. There's enough of that.

i have been asking the same thing about split screen i want to play with my friends at home and a 4-p co-op campain would rock without qustion and be able to use maps made on ts3 and ts2 would be cool also
their also should be a way to down load maps from internet

I think most of what you asked is really spot-on:

First of all, and most importantly: 4 players splitscreen.
What made TSFP one of the, or maybe even the best game I have ever played, was also it's mapmaker, but most of all 4 player splitscreen mayhem with bots.

Please, keep the bots. CoD MW2 has splitscreen, but Spec Ops is too annoying and Multiplayer has no bots.

To come back to my third wish, a mapmaker. I think this is the point the Crytek part of Crytek UK can go nuts. I've seen FC2's mapmaker, and I bet Crytek can top that. Oh and yeah, allies and civies would be super awesome.

And of course, keep it TS.

You guys are awesome.

The gun and char-designer would be awesome, but quite hard to realise.

You could however add the ability to add weapons that look like other weapons, but have different colours and maybe even different parts (from other weapons)) and shoot different ammo.

Same could be done with char's, I guess, but I do not know if that would be cool or just really awkward

my wishes:

keep all the old characters, weapons and music.

use cryengine3, the sandbox editor is a exellent complement to mapmaker and totally interactive and destructive enviroment would be amazing.

add more customizable options to game modes like halo3, and the previous modes must still on and news will be added.

add more triggers and options to mapmaker and multiple actions for a object, (like a switch with more than 2 actions). and form edit to doors and objects, put big doors, put in the floor, make a 6 door dice.

create multiplayer story game map.

more crazy weapons. (shrink, slow, freeze, teletransportation ray guns).

hability to jump, crouch, lay on floor, swim and climb.

4 players local for couch online

i like all the maps in TSFP and characters are fine i am happy to see the TS2 Splitters to return.
allthough TSFP wasnt much of a challenge for my as TS2 was so id like to see the game beefed up a little

Would just like to point out that technically the berserker splitters at least would have no home planet being man made by crow and all, furthermore if the scoure and reapers were like evolutions of the berserker's then they too would have no home planet. Anyway here's my wishlist;

A story level in anytime between 2035-2401when the splitters start swarming earth with Cortez, Hart, General (by another name maybe) and Anya with a load of spacetime marines fighting to get to the human resistance base and salvage it before the splitters take it over. (Basically a short prelude to Cortez and Hart taking off to destroy the splitter station).
A level during the Mox civil wars with humans helping one side and splitters assisting another.
Loads more monkeys, few suggestions; splitter monkeys, haze howler monkey (see my other forum post), killzone monkey, Cortez monkey and Corporal Hart monkey, guitar hero monkey, darth monkey, lego monkey and mafia monkey.
An early story level, perhaps a training simulator, called planet of the apes where you fight a rush of all the monkeys.
Extended options that let you choose whether to have just crosshairs, look down the sight abilities, or hardcore controls that make it the same as the timesplitters 2 screen (this would help it appeal to all fans old and new).

The rest is kind of on here. Mine and some other guy Robbie Smith's. WARNING: it's really long so don't click unless you've a lot of time and/or aren't tired.

Just like to say I really agree. Timesplitters made splitscreen work. People nowadays playing CoD and other games don't get it because there are no bots and therefore nothing to distract them from the other player's screen and therefore their position. Therefore if they bring back split screen they have to bring back bots and with Cryengine 3 claiming to be the new benchmark in AI aswell as it's graphics they would be INSANE! not to do so. They could really shake up the world of FPS as it is atm. Oh one more thing take one out of battlefield bad company; don't allow going prone as an option!
