CryEngine 3 physics demonstrated (With Video) at the Games Developers Conference (GDC)

CryEgine 3 is the video game engine Crytek are making to succeed the previous versions which were used in the games Far Cry and Crysis. It’s the Engine that may be found in TimeSplitters 4. CryEngine 3 will allows developers to develop for PCs, the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 at the same time. I have previously shown what CryEngine 3 is capable of here.

Crytek now say they will include stereoscopic 3D (Two images at different angles shown to different eyes) with CryEngine 3. This will be available for PC, Plystation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of games.

After the successful introduction of CryENGINE®3 at last year’s GDC, we are really excited to show the latest version of our all-in-one game development solution this year in stereoscopic 3D. Over the past few years, S-3D technology has emerged as one of the key trends both in movies and games. With CryENGINE®3, developers will have the ability to create their content in 3D on all platforms. There are basically no longer any limits to a designer’s creativity. CryENGINE®3 features many innovations to accelerate development, cut production costs and ensure teams are able to maximize their own creativity without delays

Here are two videos, one showing CryEngine 3′s amazing destructible physics and the other showing various lighting effects. Be aware that some scenes in the second video do not look very good because they are only tests and have other features disabled such as anti-aliasing. CryEngine 3 can use anti-aliasing if you got worried.

Boy I hope not. That means no support for wii, and I despise Sony and Microsoft (Terrible company). The wii needs killer apps, losing any chance at Timesplitters 4 is bad news… Battlefront 3 would have been nice too…

If only haze had never happened…

Thank you for the comment David. I appreciate your view on Microsoft (Terrible company). I am also very disapproving of their business practises and their products.

I am aware that Free Radical Design made an Engine for TimeSplitters 4. Wether that will be used, CryEngine 3 will be used or if the game is canceled like many unfortunately suspect, I don’t know.

The link you gave is very old.

Dynamically breakable objects, soft body physics, fp-rendered shooters are all things we’ve seen before. What interests me is the LPV’s. What worries me is that they seem a little unrealistic, perhaps for over-exaggerating the incandescence of the rugs in the demonstration? It’s a wonderful idea, and great that they pulled it off. Besides from making the in-game world prettier though(and there’s nothing wrong with that), I don’t see much use for it as a true mechanic. Personally I’d rather see the CPU go towards more in-game AI and renders than the LPV, but then again I don’t really know how intensive it is.
